The Mutual of Omaha Foundation has announced $699,215 in mission grants to 10 non-profit organizations for the first quarter of 2014.
Included in these grants is a $75,000 grant to the United Way of the Midlands for their partnership with Family Housing Advisory Services on the Family Stability Initiative. The primary goals of the program are to reduce student mobility; increase family stability; and to help families remain in their homes while making lasting changes that will improve their lives for generations to come.
“Our Foundation's mission is to break the cycle of poverty for families in Omaha – and this program helps families at most imminent risk of homelessness by keeping them in their homes and providing school stability for the children involved,” said Christine Johnson, president, Mutual of Omaha Foundation. “Children deserve the greatest opportunity for success in school. Helping them remain in their homes and reducing the interruptions that come with moving from school to school will have tremendous results on their future. We are proud to partner with United Way of the Midlands and the Siemer Institute for Family Stability on this program.”

In addition to these mission grants, the Foundation also approved grants for $125,000 to Children’s Hospital & Medical Center Foundation for the Carolyn Scott Rainbow House and a $50,000 grant to the Omaha Community Foundation for the 2014 Omaha Gives Campaign. Applications for Third Quarter Accepted Through May 15
In support of the Foundation’s mission to break the cycle of poverty for families in the Omaha metropolitan area, the Foundation will consider requests from organizations that address the following outcome areas: increase educational achievement, increase self-sufficiency, prevent and end homelessness and prevent and end violence.
For review in January: Submit August 16-November 15
For review in April: Submit November 16-February 15
For review in July: Submit February 16-May 15
For review in October: Submit May 16-August 15
Organizations are strongly encouraged to apply early within the application period to allow time for the due diligence necessary to ensure a request will be assigned for review to the next upcoming meeting. Waiting until the end of the application period may risk the review of a request being deferred to a later meeting.
