Omaha-Neb.--The Mutual of Omaha Foundation has announced $305,000 in mission grants to 11 non-profit organizations for the third quarter of 2013.
Included in these grants is a $25,000 grant to the Omaha Home for Boys for their Jacob's Place Transitional Living program. Operating with a mission to "Strengthen Youth and Families," the Omaha Home for Boys provides services to at-risk youth through family-style, community-based programs supported by education. The skills they learn at the Home help them learn to thrive and succeed as adults. Just last year, they served more than 60 youths who, without the support of this program, may have faced continued homelessness.
"Our Foundation's mission is to break the cycle of poverty for families. Many of the youth served in the Jacob's Place program not only live at or below the poverty line, but do not have the traditional support system of a family," said Christine Johnson, president, Mutual of Omaha Foundation. "Breaking the cycle of poverty for these children starts with ensuring they have basic needs and the opportunity to learn how to be successfully independent. This organization is providing an incredible service to the most vulnerable in our community."
In addition to this grant, the Foundation also approved grants to the following organizations:
